Bloomsburg Falls to Millersville in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG --The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to Millersville 78-53 on Tuesday night in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division season opener for both teams.

Millersvillegot off to a quick start jumping out to a 9-2 lead in the game's first four and a half minutes, but a Lauren Healy (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) three-pointer at the 15-minute mark cut the Millersville lead to four. After a Millersville layup, Healy cut the Millersville lead back to four at 11-7 with a layup. Millersville would then go on a 6-0 run to make the score 17-7 at the 11-minute mark. Both teams would trade baskets up until the seven-minute mark when Bloomsburg's Brea Lewis (Philadelphia/Frankford) knocked down a shot to make the score 23-13 in favor of Millersville.

From then on out, the Marauders dominated, as they proceeded to go on a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to make the score 38-13. Bloomsburg ended the half with an 11-2 run, but still were well behind at 40-24 at halftime.

In the second half, Bloomsburg cut the Millersville lead to 40-27 to begin the period with a Stephanie Jones (Philadelphia/Manor College) three-pointer and at the 12-minute mark cut the Millersville lead to 47-33 after a Monica Dennison (Zion Grove/Hazleton Area) layup. However, that was the closest Bloomsburg came to the rest of the half.

Bloomsburg was led by Healy led who scored 11 points, while Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) added 10 points and pulled down six rebounds. Millersville was led by Kristin Kunzman, who scored 15 points.

With the loss, Bloomsburg falls to 4-11, 0-1 in the PSAC East, while Millersville improves to 11-4, 1-0 in the PSAC East. The Huskies will return to action on Saturday when they visit Cheyney at 1:00 p.m.
